Spring has sprung and that means US-grown pears are in season and the perfect pick. USA Pears and The Fruit Company to thank for our current Freebie—three Appetite for Health readers will win a sweet 7 lb. Pear Medley gift box! Details on how to win are below.
We love pears because they’re nutritional all-stars. USA Pears grown in Oregon and Washington are an excellent source of fiber and a good source of vitamin C, with only 100 calories per medium pear. They’re also naturally sodium and fat-free.
Pears are a great snack and to check if they’re ripe, if the pear gives to gentle pressure when you press near the stem, it’s ready to eat. You can also make sweet and savory dishes with pears or even add them to your sandwiches, smoothies or salads for a nutritional boost.
If you need a new way to enjoy pears, look no further than this amazingly simple, but super delish recipe. Created by Chef Jamie Lauren of Absinthe Brasserie and Bar in San Francisco, and cookbook author Mollie Katzen, this versatile recipe delivers pear goodness that looks and tastes restaurant-fancy. Go on, impress someone with your rockin’ pear prep skills!
