Our Best Guacamole Recipe!

October 30, 2014 by Julie 2 Comments

best guacamole recipeHere’s our best guacamole recipe!

Guacamole is much more than a great dip. I eat it with my scrambled eggs, with fresh veggies and on my sandwiches.

Avocados are nutritional all-stars with nearly 20 different vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. They’re also rich in mono and polyunsaturated fats which are known to be good for your heart’s health.

What’s more, eating avocados, in place of foods rich in saturated fat (like full-fat cheese!) is a great way to get more of the beneficial unsaturated fats in your diet.  Studies show that avocados also help keep you satisfied and those who enjoy avos have smaller waistlines and healthier diets.

Making guacamole is easy so there’s no reason to resort to store-bought options that may be light on real avocados and heavy on additives. What’s more, a serving (2 tablespoons) of some store-bought guacamole can have up to 100 calories and 10 grams of fat, but this recipe has about half as many calories.

Ingredients

2 ripe medium avocados, peeled, pitted and diced

1 large ripe tomato, diced

1⁄4 cup chopped onion (white or red)

1-2 cloves garlic, minced

3 Tbsp chopped fresh cilantro

Juice of 1 large lime or 2 small limes

1⁄2 tsp ground cumin

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

In medium bowl, combine all ingredients and blend together. Mash the avocado according to the consistency that you like–chunky or more smooth. Serve immediately.

[…] Holy guacamole!: This year, Americans will devour a record number of fresh avocados – 240 million – during Super Bowl week. That’s fine by me, as I’ll be enjoying plenty of guacamole too. A tablespoon of guacamole has about 30 calories and 2.5 grams of fat, most of which is beneficial monounsaturated fats. To make, here is my favorite guac recipe. […]
